*Clothing trunks should be padlocked to keep children safe. Three children suffocated when they hid in a clothing trunk while playing hide and seek. The trunk lid could not open from the inside. May 5/2000
*Avoid blinds and curtain strings near the crib in baby's room, because of risk of strangulation. Where you do have blinds and curtains, tie the cords high out of reach, or use the commercial cord shorteners.
Lawn Mower and Snow Blower Safety
* Pick up trash and rocks before starting, to prevent dangerous
missiles. Turn the machine off when crossing gravel drives or
paths.
* Keep small children away while equipment is operating.
* Wear protective footwear.
* Refill the gas tank outdoors.
*Don't use pressure-mounted gates at the top of stairs. Your child could fall down the stairs if the gate becomes dislodged. Use gates that mount with screws or other hardware, at the top of stairs, and be sure they are securely mounted in wood studs, or metal railing, not just drywall. Pressure-mounted gates can be used at the bottom of stairs, or in doorways.
*Pumpkin carving is for adults, not children. There are many
injuries each year that require plastic surgery, because of pumpkin
carving.
