The easiest way to serve your baby home-made baby food is to
use a food
mill to puree the same food that is being served to everyone
else for the meal, provided that you are following a healthy menu.
You also save money because you do not have to buy special "baby
food", and you can control the "additives". If
there are meals consisting of foods which baby is not ready for,
you can have some frozen food cubes handy. On days when you have
leftover vegetables, fruits, meats, that can be eaten by baby,
just grind the extra in the food mill. Put it in the cube sections
of an ice cube tray, cover, and freeze quickly. Or, freeze spoonfuls
of the pureed food on a cookie sheet (cover it with wax paper).
When it is frozen solid, take the cubes or spoonfuls of food and
store them in a freezer bag. Remove the air from the bag to prevent
loss of vitamins. Label and date it. When you wish to use a cube
or two, warm it by putting it in a double boiler or in a little
dish sitting in a bigger dish of hot water. To avoid burning baby
with "hot spots", do not microwave. Do not re-freeze
the left-overs.
